Microchips In the News

As many of you may be aware, a microchip registration company known as "Save This Life" is no longer maintaining their microchip registrations. This could put your pets at risk if they were to go missing as their chips would no longer be linked with your contact information. If your chip is not with "Save This Life" then this does not impact you or your pets' safety! If you know your pet's chip was registered with "Save This Life" or if you are unsure of who your microchip is registered with, here are the next steps we would recommend:

1. Call our front desk at 757-565-6000 to set up a time to come in, and one of our technicians or assistants to scan your pets microchip. We can provide you with your pets microchip number and can identify who their registration company is.
If you happen to already know your pet's microchip number, you can also look up their registration at home via the AAHA Microchip Registry Lookup Website: https://www.aaha.org/for-veterinary.../microchip-search/
Enter the microchip number and press “Search”. If your pet’s microchip is from Save This Life you will receive the following response:
(No information found in participating databases. Please see below for possible manufacturers.)
This is most likely a microchip from one of the following:
Peeva (833-PEEVA-CO(733-8226)
Save This Life (855-777-CHIP or 855-777-2447)

2. If your microchip was previously with "Save This Life" it will need to be re-registered with a different pet recovery service. This includes companies such as HomeAgain, 24PetWatch, AKC Reunite, and Petlink. Some registration fees may apply and this can be completed through each company's individual website.

3. Be sure to verify all of your contact information is correct with the new company!

We know this is an inconvenience for those affected and we will try to aid in any way can to make this process as smooth as possible to keep your pet safe. If your pet is not chipped, make an appointment - we can do that for you!
